Langley Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a form of treatment delivered by licensed physical therapists to address both acute and long-term conditions that cause pain, reduced mobility, and decreased function.
It involves a detailed assessment process to identify the root cause of your condition, followed by targeted treatment focused on rehabilitation, injury prevention, and overall physical wellness.
Physiotherapy is highly effective for individuals recovering from injuries such as motor vehicle accidents or sports-related trauma. With proper treatment, patients often experience reduced pain, improved flexibility, and enhanced physical function.

What Do Physiotherapists Do?
Physiotherapists assess, diagnose, and treat physical conditions that affect movement and function. They create personalized treatment plans to help patients recover and prevent further injury.
To learn, you can start by watching our video.
How Do I Know If Physiotherapy Is Right for Me?
If you’re unsure whether physiotherapy is appropriate, it’s a good idea to speak with your doctor or contact our clinic for guidance.
When Should I Start Physiotherapy?
Treatment should begin as soon as you notice pain or a loss of function. A doctor’s referral is not required to start physiotherapy.
What Types of Treatments Are Offered?
Treatment may include hands-on techniques such as soft tissue therapy and joint mobilization to improve movement and reduce muscle tension.
Therapists may also use heat, ice, and other modalities depending on your condition. In some cases, acupuncture or dry needling may be incorporated.
Overall, physiotherapy aims to reduce pain and restore mobility.
Who are Physiotherapists?
Physiotherapists are regulated healthcare professionals who hold a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy. They have extensive knowledge of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
They assess how you move, evaluate posture, and consider your daily activities at home, work, and during recreation to identify the cause of your symptoms.
What Kind of Education Do Patients Receive?
Education is a key part of physiotherapy. Patients learn about the causes of their condition and how to manage symptoms through:
- Improved posture
- Activity modification
- Ergonomic adjustments
- Safe participation in sports and daily activities
How long are Physiotherapy sessions?
Initial assessments typically last 45 minutes.
Follow-up sessions are usually 30 minutes of one-on-one treatment, though you may spend up to 45 minutes in the clinic to complete exercises or receive additional therapies.
Is Physiotherapy Covered by Extended Health Plans?
Most extended health plans include physiotherapy coverage. We recommend confirming details with your provider.
We also offer direct billing for major insurers such as Canada Life, Manulife, Sun Life and others.
What happens during a physiotherapy assessment?
During your first visit, the physiotherapist will review your medical history and discuss your symptoms.
You’ll also perform simple movement tests, such as range of motion and strength assessments, to help determine the best course of treatment.
What Exercises Are Prescribed?
Exercises are tailored to your condition and rehabilitation goals.
Exercises are prescribed for the purpose of improving joint flexibility, strength, or stability. For example, if you are suffering from chronic lower back pain, a physiotherapist would show you core stability exercises to reduce your back pain.
Someone who is pregnant or has recently delivered a baby may also be shown core stability exercises aimed at increasing the stability of their lower back and pelvis.
Is physiotherapy covered by ICBC?
Yes. If you have an open ICBC claim, physiotherapy is fully covered with no user fees.
ICBC typically approves up to 25 sessions within 12 weeks following an accident. If additional treatment is needed, we can coordinate directly with your adjuster to request further coverage.
What Types of Injuries Do phyiotherapists Treat?
Physical therapists provide treatment for various types of injuries such as acute injuries, muscle strains, ligament sprains, nerve injuries, and fractures.
They treat temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, which cause jaw pain. They also treat headaches and vertigo as well as incontinence.
A physiotherapist can also help people recover from surgery or strokes.
Does physiotherapy work?
Physiotherapy is a proven, effective method for relieving pain and restoring function—often without the need for medication.
What techniques do you focus on?
At our Langley location, treatment focuses on hands-on physiotherapy techniques and active rehabilitation.
Your physiotherapist will use manual therapy, guided exercises, and movement-based treatments to help reduce pain, restore mobility, and improve strength. This approach encourages long-term recovery by addressing the root cause of your condition and helping you stay active throughout your rehabilitation.
How Does Treatment Progress Over Time?
As your condition improves, your physiotherapist will adjust your treatment plan. This may include new exercises and guidance on gradually returning to work, sports, and daily activities.
