Extended Health Benefit Plans

Most of the services and treatments offered at Nova Physiotherapy are covered by extended health benefits. The coverage of the extended health benefits will depend on your individual insurance provider and policy. It’s a good idea to know your extended health benefits coverage prior to booking your appointment. You can usually find this information from the insurance booklet provided by the insurance company, logging into your online insurance portal account, or speaking with someone from the HR department of the company that you work for.

You will need to provide:

  1. Your extended benefits card with policy number and member ID
  2. Doctor’s referral, if required by your policy

Extended Health Benefits Direct Billing - FAQs

What are Extended Health Benefits?

Extended Health Benefits are additional benefits that cover expenses and services that are not covered by medical services plan (MSP) or other government funding.

You may have Extended Health Benefits through your employer, or you may have purchased them yourself through an Extended Health Benefit Plan provider.

Is Physiotherapy covered by Extended Health Benefits?

Yes, most extended health benefits plans do cover physiotherapy.

You may need to pay for a portion of the visit depending on your health benefits coverage. There is typically a maximum amount that is covered, and on some plans, only a percentage will be covered.

How does direct billing work?

In order to access your extended health benefits coverage, we will require insurance information from you including the name of the insurance company, your policy number, and your member ID.

We can then access the insurance payment system online through a web-portal.  We will then be able to access what your extended health benefits plan will pay and any amounts remaining that you may need to pay.

Will I need to pay anything?

This depends on your individual insurance coverage.

For example, a plan could cover 80% of a visit for a total of $500. That would mean that you need to pay 20% of the visit cost (referred to as a co-pay) at the time of service, but the remaining 80% would be covered by your extended health benefits.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to attend physiotherapy?

We do not require a doctor’s referral however some plans do require one. In our experience, most plans do not require a doctor’s referral to attend physiotherapy.

Please check with your extended health benefits provider to find out what your plan requirements are.

What treatments can you direct bill?

At Nova Physiotherapy, we provide many different services including physiotherapy, active rehab, IMS / dry needling, shockwave therapy, and more. The treatments are all billed based on the practitioner providing the service (Physiotherapist, or Kinesiologist)

Each health benefits plan will have different coverage with regards to each treatment type.
